You sound like people who tell me electric cars are cheap to run. Yes, after they've paid you back for the exorbitant price. Or people who buy a new gas boiler to save gas, but they spend a grand getting the boiler. By the time it's paid for itself in gas savings, it's expired. New PC equipment costs a fortune. 2nd hand stuff is very cheap, especially if you buy stuff others don't want, like a GPU with a dodgy display output that still crunches fine. And if you would be heating the house anyway, the electricity is working for you twice.

And since you only have 3 computers (ROFL!), one dating from 2013, and your best one is a couple of models below my best one, your total passmark rating is lower than mine, and your GPUs are abysmal since you total 2GB VRAM and I total 26GB, I suggest you STFU about saying my computers are out of date.

If you really believe that you're not very bright (but assuming you're Welsh that's not actually your fault). It's to do with how new you consider a new or old computer to be. Which is everything to do with mine's bigger than yours. Your viewpoint that most Boinc users have fancy new computers is false, in fact we're quite likely to collect old stuff more than say someone who plays games.

I'm gonna try WCG when they get their act together. It seems the problems are them moving to completely different software on completely different servers and trying to transfer all the data and settings across. Having read up on "IBM Mainframes", I'm gonna blame IBM:

If they were copying to the same model of server, with the same operating system, it would probably be simple.

They probably aren't, so they'll need to make a lot of changes in the programs that run on the server. That requires knowledge of whatever computer languages those programs are written in.

When I copy my photos and Photoshop to a new computer with Windows instead of Linux, I don't have to know how it's written. All they need to do is configure stuff.

At the moment they can't even get the web server to work. What IT guy can't get a web server running?!
