Currently, I run Rosetta under BOINC in both operating systems. Is there a way to set up a common data file so running either os can use and continue the same WUs? What about version compatibilities any problem there? I run xp and 64-bit Ubuntu.

I'd say not. The application code is different for the two OS's and it would be too difficult to extract that from the BOINC directory structure.

The good news is that BOINC will learn your patterns for how much of the time each tends to be running, but of course that figure could easily be thrown off by leaving a different OS up overnight one day to the next.

You might want to set your Rosetta preference for runtime to a lower figure to help EACH OS complete and report back tasks before the 10 day deadlines.

Currently, my target run time is not set (default). The critical thing is to complete each assigned WU within its deadline, correct? So the only problem would be not switching to the other os within 10 days in order to complete its assigned WUs. Since I tend to run 24/7 and it should be rare to not switch within 10 days, I should be ok. Please correct any misunderstandings I may have.

Just ran across your thread - Not sure if its relevant anymore, but someone else may benefit. I mainly run Linux, but there are an extremely rare few apps that won't run under wine, so I have VirtualBox setup where I can run XP without having to reboot.
VirtualBox is cross-platform, so you can run it on any host OS (including Intel Macs, although you can't run OSX on non-mac hardware) but I'd recommend running Linux as the host and XP in the virtual session - much more stable.

On the other hand, its a lot easier to pack up *nix and restore everything into the virtual client.
