Since I'm getting no work units from Rosetta, and Folding@Home work units aren't coming (they haven't caught up with new volunteers either, though they've had weeks - though maybe it's because I have them set as GPU only), I added WorldCommunityGrid to BOINC. They're also doing medical research. Currently running tasks for cancer and microbiom.

Please do. I also just joined, but be aware it appears they only send out Ralph work units when working on a new version of the Rosetta or Mini-Rosetta app, so there may be long gaps of time where it doesn't seem to be doing anything or getting any work.

I've left Ralph active on all my machines, so if they ever do send anything out they all are ready to crunch.

Just got v4.15 running on my 2015 Macbook Pro running Mac-OS Catalina. COVID-19 tasks seem to be running fine so far, with just one weird error so far. What does "can't acquire lock file" mean? A Google search returned nothing useful.

Just got v4.15 running on my 2015 Macbook Pro running Mac-OS Catalina. COVID-19 tasks seem to be running fine so far, with just one weird error so far. What does "can't acquire lock file" mean? A Google search returned nothing useful.

If it's just that one Task, and nothing before or since i wouldn't worry (too much) about it.


What i came across-

"A Lock File is a small file, usually of zero length (empty) that is used to indicate a running process or ownership of a directory. The use of a file in this manner is to prevent two running processes from modifying the contents of the directory at the same time.
The first process, as part of its initialization, will open a file, usually named lockfile (go figure), for write access. Because the file is open for writing, any other process that wishes to use that directory will likewise try to open a file with the same name and the file create will fail. This signals the second process that it does not have exclusive access to the directory. "

It could have just been a passing permissions glitch or similar- my WAG (Wild Arse Guess) is the Task needed the lockfile to control access to a particular folder, but some other process (or a permissions issue) was blocking that from occurring, hence the error message & the Task getting terminated.

If it re-occurs i'd exit BOINC & restart it after 30sec or so,
If it still re-occurs i'd detach from the project, ext BOINC, download a new copy & re-install & re-attach to Rosetta.
If it still re-occurs, i've not got the slightest idea.
